Our Small Group is taking a bit of a break for awhile.....sort of. Portico is beginning a series of classes called Character Development and these will take the place of our Small Group for the time being. They will be held at the church building and start at 6:3o. The first class kicks off tomorrow the 14th. Here are Pastor Eric's words describing this class series: "In his letter to the Colossians, Paul wrote that with all the energy given to him, he struggled and labored to "present every person mature, or complete, in Christ." This requires an in-depth examination of your life to this point from a biblical perspective, developing a deeper, more mature understanding of how God designed you, and discovering how sin impacts your style of relating to others. This class is designed for those who are growing followers of Christ with a solid foundation of discipleship basics. You should have a deep desire to grow in becoming more like Christ, and be willing to apply what you learn to your own issues, circumstances and struggles. You must be willing to go in-depth with your heart issues in a small group format, and be open to receiving feedback and challenge from others."

Small Group Topic for Thursday, Aug 12
Patience....now that's an area where I fail miserably. Over and over and over. Fortunately however, the Bible has some wonderful things to say about patience and we'll use our time on Thursday to study these verses and reflect on how they can impact our lives.

Other passages we'll discuss: James 1:2-4, Matt 24:13, Romans 5:3-5, Galatians 6:1-10, Hebrews 6:9-12, 10:32-39

Topic for June 24th Small Group - Zacchaeus
Do you remember that song you used to sing in Children's church? "Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and wee little man was he. He climbed up in a sycamore tree, for the Lord he wanted to see....."
Well, we are going to take our next small group and using what we learned in the "How to Study Your Bible" series, look into the account of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10 and see what inspired that song. Can we learn anything from those short 1o verses? You bet!!!
Hope to see you there.

Next Small Group - May 13th
Due to my traveling schedule which will continue to booger our regular schedule up for the next couple of months, let's plan on getting together from 6:30-8:00 next Thursday, May 13th. Tara and I will get a bunch of Eaton's pizza's and we'll just spend some time in fellowship and prayer. How does that sound?

Next Small Group - Thursday, April 15
For the next couple of studies, we're going to put what we've been learning into practice. Since we're in the Easter season, let's start by looking at Luke 19:28-44. This is the account of Jesus's entry into Jerusalem, or Palm Sunday. When we meet on 4/15, we'll break that passage down verse by verse using the tools we've learned. But don't wait until the 15th, start doing your own study on that passage and share what you've learned with the group when we meet!

Next Small Group - March 25
Our next small group will be on Thursday, March 25th where we'll wrap up our series called "How to Study Your Bible". We'll take a look at the 4 gaps that need to be bridged when doing any serious study of Scripture - Language, Culture, Geography, and History.
3/23: UPDATE - there won't be any pre-work to do for this one, just show up and I'll have some guides we'll work through.

Small Group for Thursday, March 4
Well, due to my new position at work, I've got a bit of traveling in store - which is the reason I needed to move the Feb 25 small group to this upcoming Thursday, March 4th. But I'm excited to reconnect with everyone and get back into the Word collectively. This week we'll take a look at part 4 of our series on how to study the Bible, and we'll start discussing a couple of different methods for studying the Bible, using the tools we talked about in the last small group. Hope to see you there!

Small Group Topic for Thursday, January 28
We'll continue with our series on how to study the Bible by spending some timing looking at the Bible itself. There are 66 total books, but who wrote them, who were they written to, when were they written, and what are the central themes? It is important to have this understanding before one can begin a serious study of Scripture. Hope to see you there!
